Cosplayers, the World Championship challenge is here!

By Riot Yuka

After months of preparation and bruising battles for qualification, the world's best players are ready to come together and compete for the League of Legends World Championship. Who will prevail? Who will wilt in the face of destiny? Who will forget to upgrade their trinket? We're only days from finding out.

Away from the Rift, cosplayers also know what it's like to invest all of their (first) blood, sweat and tears into delivering a single transcendent moment. The cosplay community has to be endlessly creative and never rests, and together we want to show our respect and appreciation for the pros' valour and sacrifice by celebrating the 2015 World Championship in style!

This month we're challenging you to submit the best photos of your Worlds and esports-themed skins. Perhaps you want to meticulously recreate every detail of the Championship, Victorious or Challenger Ahri skins. Or perhaps you're feeling particularly proud of your favourite esports team (whether they made it to Worlds or not) and want to create an original champion skin concept based on them. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Oh, and if you can't wait until the Worlds roundup to show off your new costume, keep an eye on the League of Legends website, where we will be announcing how you can take part in cosplay at Worlds in Europe in the very near future. In the meantime, get creative!

Submission Rules:

  1. We are accepting cosplays of champions from the following official skin lines, including but not limited to:
    • Championship (Riven, Thresh, Shyvana, Kalista)
    • Victorious (Jarvan IV, Janna, Elise, Morgana)
    • Challenger Ahri
    • Fnatic (Corki, Janna, Gragas, Jarvan IV, Karthus)
    • TPA (Nunu, Ezreal, Shen, Dr. Mundo, Orianna)
    • SKT T1 (Zed, Lee Sin, Jax, Vayne, Zyra)
    • SSW (Singed, Rengar, Talon, Twitch, Thresh)
  2. We are also accepting original cosplays designs based on a champion celebrating any League of Legends esports team. It must be obvious (via logo or colour scheme) which team the champion is representing. An example of this could be “Unicorns of Love Hecarim” or “Team Dignitas Zac”.
  3. Your costume does not have to be newly made for this competition. However, you must have made the majority of your costume yourself or with help from friends/family. Costumes purchased from online cosplay shops are not accepted, but you are allowed to include official team merchandise in your costume if you are cosplaying an esports team design (e.g. Cloud 9 hoodie).
  4. You must submit a photograph of a person wearing your full costume (it doesn’t have to be yourself if you’re feeling shy). We are not accepting photos of costumes on mannequins, photos of League of Legends-themed make-up or fan art.
  5. All entries will be judged on the following criteria: costume accuracy, costume construction, and effort put into capturing the essence of the character in the photo. For original designs, entries will also be judged on the recognisability of the champion, recognisability of the team, and creativity of the design.
  6. Photoshop editing is allowed for minor retouching and special effects, but please avoid creating purely digital costumes or fabricating entire backgrounds.
  7. You can submit up to three photos of you wearing your costume. We're only taking submissions formatted in .jpg or .png. The maximum file size is 5MB and minimum dimensions are 600 x 600px (but the larger, the better!) Any of these three photos may appear on or on associated Riot Games Twitter accounts.
  8. You must submit an additional (fourth) photograph to prove the costume belongs to you. A photo of your summoner name written on a piece of paper next to parts of your costume on a desk will suffice. This photo will not be published and is only used to verify entries.
  9. Finally, your submission must abide by our TOU, so keep in mind that your photo can’t include any logos, advertisements, product names or product placements (with the exception of League of Legends esports team logos or photographer watermarks). Also make sure your picture is appropriate for players of all ages: League is rated Teen, so nothing too sexy!

Submit your photos before the deadline of 1st November 2015 at 11:59 GMT. Afterwards, we’ll pick our favourites and open a gallery for you to view all of the amazing submissions.
