Universities to Represent Europe in the 2017 LoL International College Cup

On June 3rd-4th, collegiate teams from the University Esports Masters (UEM) will face off against each other in the European University Championship Qualifier where 2 teams will win the chance to represent Europe in the 2017 LoL International College Cup and test their mettle on the global stage.

What is this International College Cup?

The 2017 League of Legends International College Cup is a new tournament being hosted by Tencent to create a higher platform for college teams worldwide, and to help foster cultural communication between regions. Some of the best collegiate teams from across the world will travel to China to compete for a 100,000 RMB (~€13,000) prize pool and pride of their school and region.

The tournament will be held in China in mid-July where a total of 12 teams from China (2), Europe (2), North America (2), South East Asia (2), Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be battle over 4 intense days of matches, and in the end one team will return home with the cup

For the 1st and 2nd place teams the journey continues, the top 2 teams will travel to Taipei in early August to play a match at the 29th Summer Universiade. The Universiade is a multi-sport university competition, and is the largest multi-sport event in the world apart from the Olympic Games.

What is the University International Championship Qualifier?

The European University Championship Qualifier is a battle between the collegiate champions of France, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. The tournament will be run by University Esports Masters (UEM), Europe’s largest collegiate esports coalition.

The University Esports Masters brings the various national university gaming communities in Europe together under the same umbrella, thanks to the cooperation of the following European organisers who strive to build the esports community in the collegiate scene.

Thanks to the efforts of all of the UEM organizations and others, almost 12,000 students from over 300 universities in Europe competed this season in national leagues and tournaments.

Who is playing the European University Championship Qualifier?

What is the format of the European University Championship Qualifier?

The European University Championship Qualifier will be divided into two stages: Group Stages and the Qualification Matches.

Group Stage

Teams will be divided into two groups, where they will face each other in a Bo1 single round robin format. The top two teams of each group will qualify to the Final Stage.

Qualification Matches

The winner from each group will face off against the second-best team from the other group in a Bo3 match. The two winners in the Final Stage will be qualified to represent Europe in the 2017 LoL International College Cup.
